Moving to the Mountains

Become a member of a mountain community!

At The High Mountains, we believe in a different way of life—one that embraces nature, respectfully utilizes the resources of our mountains, and fosters vibrant communities. We understand that the first step toward deurbanization can seem challenging—new places, new faces, new living conditions. That's why we are building a network of people who live in mountainous areas, cherish their homeland, and are eager to see it thrive again. These individuals are Ambassadors of Repopulation

The role of the Ambassador is to provide you with valuable insights about the village and give you a clear understanding of what to expect if you choose to live there. They can share information about daily life, housing, job opportunities, and local infrastructure. Additionally, they will help you integrate into the community, build new connections, and explore the area’s natural beauty in depth.

How it works

1. You become a member of The High Mountains

By registering and paying the annual membership fee, you become a member of The High Mountains and begin the “Moving to the Mountains” process.

After registering, you receive a short questionnaire that helps us understand more about you, your needs, the areas you are interested in, and how you imagine your life outside the city.

Once you complete the questionnaire, we send you the Decentralisation Ambassadors Map and invite you to book a short online meeting. We discuss your plans, needs, and ideas, and explore which areas and Ambassadors may be the best fit for you.

Based on what we have discussed, we contact Ambassadors in the areas you are interested in, or others we believe may be a good match for your profile and needs.

When one or more Ambassadors respond positively, we put you directly in touch. You can speak with them about everyday life, housing, work, local services, and anything else you may need to know about the area.

Your contact with an Ambassador may lead to a visit, new local connections, or a more concrete exploration of relocation. You can keep us updated on how the process is progressing and, if needed, we can explore connecting you with additional Ambassadors.

Thinking about life in a village?

We can help you explore this option and take your first steps with more knowledge and direct contact with people who already live there.

Mountain product

The quality designation "mountain product" denotes the distinctive qualities of a product made in mountainous regions under challenging environmental conditions.

Both farmers and consumers benefit from this acknowledgment. It not only makes certain characteristics of the product clear to the consumer but also helps farmers market their products more effectively.

  • Products: agricultural and food products.
  • Specifications: The raw materials and animal feed come from mountain areas. For processed products, production must also take place in these areas.
